Appreciation from Clients

From Scott D. Seligman, author of The First Chinese American: The Remarkable Story of Wong Chin Foo (Hong Kong: Hong Kong University Press, 2012):

Dear Vicki:

This is a fan letter.

I happened on your web page by searching for advance references to my own book, The First Chinese American. I already knew that you had done the proofreading and editing on the manuscript, because I asked Clara Ho to include you by name in the acknowledgments section.

As I told Clara, I have rarely seen such a thoroughly competent, meticulous and professional job as you did on my book. You took a light touch, which I appreciated; you didn’t suggest changes unless there was a good reason to do so. I especially appreciated your edits to the endnotes, as formatting notes is not my strongest suit.
The result is a book that is no doubt a much tighter work for your efforts.  I hope you enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed your edits…and now your blog!

My best,
Scott D. Seligman

From Dorothy Haines, author of Sunday Observance and the Sunday Letter in Anglo-Saxon England (Woodbridge, Suffolk: D.S. Brewer, 2010):

It was a pleasure having Vicki Low complete the index for my book, _Sunday Observance and the Sunday Letter in Anglo-Saxon England_. She read the manuscript carefully, and the resulting index showed a thorough understanding of its concepts and structure. Vicki worked quickly and efficiently and only occasionally asked for clarifications or my preferences in regard to the categorization of some entries. I highly recommend Vicki Low for any indexing or copy-editing projects.

From Sandra Khor Manickam, author of Taming the Wild: Aborigines and Racial Knowledge in Colonial Malaya (forthcoming):

It has been great working with Vicki Low on the proof-reading and copy-editing of my first academic manuscript. We kept in regular email contact during the entire process and she was very prompt in replying to questions concerning the manuscript from an already nervous scholar. I was very happy with how the manuscript read at the end, and I've received favourable responses from my reviewers. All in all, her work has been excellent, and I have no doubt that I will use her services again.

From Eileen J. Cheng, author of Literary Remains: Death, Trauma, and Lu Xun's Refusal to Mourn (Honolulu: University of Hawai'i Press, 2013):

Vicki Low created the index for my book. She is thorough, meticulous, efficient, and resourceful—qualities essential to a competent indexer. When questions arose, she was mindful of the integrity of the work and respectful of the wishes of the author. Throughout the process and in our communications, I found her to be pleasant and consummately professional. It was truly a pleasure working with her.

From the children's author Robert Cutting:

I have known Vicki Soon-Ai Low for many years, primarily as editor of many of my children's books. She worked on seven of my graphic novels for Rubicon Publishing, and her attention to detail was incredible. Vicki's astute editorial skills are intertwined with her excellent turn as an author, and it is this fact that makes her such a sound editor. Vicki "sees" the book from both literary and publishing aspects, and is able to work with an author from the idea stage through to the finished book, bringing out what becomes the best possible edition. Without her guidance, my books would not have been as well received as they are. She is an outstanding editor and author, one who will offer much to the publishing world for many years to come.
